Frequently Asked Questions

How long is each session with Dr. Martínez?

Sessions are 55 minutes long, and they are limited to the hour you have scheduled. That is, if you arrive 15 minutes after the agreed time, your appointment runs for the remaining 40 minutes.

How often are sessions scheduled?

During the initial phase (four or five sessions) Dr. Martínez sees clients weekly. Sessions are typically biweekly thereafter.

How long does treatment last?

Treatment typically extends over a period of several months to a year. Some clients maintain contact with Dr. Martínez several times per year while they continue to work on their own. Treatment lasts as long as conversations are useful and productive.

Can I use my insurance?

Each session is paid up front. At the end of the month Dr. Martínez provides an invoice that can be submitted to insurance companies for reimbursement. It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to get details about how to handle “out of network providers.”

What is the cancellation policy?

24 hr. cancellation prior to the appointment is required, otherwise the session is charged in full.

Where do I park?

There is a parking lot across the street from the office that accepts payment by phone. On Saturdays the parking lot is free. There are also meters on Auburn Ave.

Is the office metro accessible?

Bethesda Metro (red line) is 5 blocks away from the office. The free Bethesda Circulator stops at the office’s entrance.

Does Dr. Martínez work with children?

Children are rarely seen by themselves. If the presenting problem involves a child, the most substantive work is done with the parents.
